Preserving Your Wedding Bouquet in a Resin Block: The Ultimate Guide

Preserving Your Wedding Bouquet in a Resin Block: The Ultimate Guide

A resin bouquet block is a solid, crystal-clear block of epoxy resin that encases and preserves your actual wedding flowers in 3D form for decades. This modern preservation method captures the full shape and color of blooms (unlike flat pressed-flower art) and creates a stunning display piece. However, making a bouquet resin block is a time-intensive, artisanal process – it doesn’t happen overnight. In this guide, we’ll explain exactly what the process involves, the quality materials and care that go into it, how to care for your resin block, and what to expect in terms of cost and ordering.

What Is a Wedding Bouquet Resin Block?

In simple terms, it’s a custom-made resin sculpture that preserves your wedding bouquet (or other meaningful florals) forever. We carefully dry your flowers and then suspend them in clear resin, pouring the resin in layers to build up a block that could be, for example, a 6×6″ square or a 10×10″ rectangle. The result is a completely encapsulated bouquet that you can admire from all angles – essentially, your flowers frozen in time inside a glass-like block. Bouquet blocks come in various shapes (square, rectangular, round, hexagonal, heart, etc.) and sizes. For instance, we offer everything from a small boutonniere cube (~3″ size, ideal for a single rose or boutonniere) up to a 10×10 inch large display block for whole bouquets. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and handcrafted to showcase your flowers’ beauty and layout as elegantly as possible. Because of the significant volume of resin and labor required, these blocks are considered luxury keepsakes – they are heavy, durable, and made to last a lifetime as a cherished piece of art.

Quality Materials: Non-Yellowing, Food-Safe Resin

Not all resin is created equal. We use a premium epoxy resin formulated specifically for clear artwork and archival preservation. It’s VOC-free (no harmful fumes) and low-odor, which means it’s safer for our artists to work with and eco-friendly for your home. Our resin is also certified food-safe, compliant with FDA regulations (21 CFR 175.300) for indirect food contact. In practical terms, this means once cured, it doesn’t leach harmful chemicals – the same type of resin is used for coating tables, countertops, even making serving trays, so you can trust it in your living space. The cured block is hard and inert – it won’t attract mold or degrade.

Importantly, our resin is formulated with UV inhibitors for maximum clarity. It is highly resistant to yellowing or turning cloudy over time. In fact, it’s the same type of high-grade epoxy used by professional artists for museum-quality clear casts. With proper display (indoors, away from harsh UV), you can expect your block to stay crystal clear for many years. We do caution to avoid long-term direct sunlight on any resin art (more on care below), but under normal indoor conditions our blocks do not yellow with age. Unlike cheaper resins, this professional-grade material remains transparent and glossy. The block also encapsulates your flowers without air – meaning the blooms inside are protected from oxygen and humidity, further ensuring the colors and form last.

Another aspect of quality is the drying method for the flowers. We exclusively use silica gel drying (a desiccant method) for bouquets, as it’s the best way to retain flower color and shape. Silica drying can preserve much of a bloom’s original vibrancy – for example, a pink rose will often stay fairly pink (maybe one shade deeper) rather than browning, and whites remain close to white (perhaps a creamy ivory tone). This fast, enclosed drying (taking a few days to a couple weeks per flower type) minimizes color fading compared to air-drying. We take care to start drying your bouquet immediately after we receive it (within 24 hours of your event) for best results. All these steps help lock in the beauty of your flowers before they ever touch resin.

Despite our best efforts, it’s important to understand that dried flowers do undergo some natural color changes. For instance, whites and creams in your bouquet will usually develop a warmer ivory or pale yellow hue as they dry (this is a normal oxidation effect). Bright pinks or reds might deepen a bit, and overall tones often become slightly more muted or vintage-looking. We think these changes are part of the charm – the preserved blooms take on a timeless, heirloom quality. However, we also understand you might wish your piece to look as vibrant as your wedding day photos. That’s why we offer an optional Color Restoration service (also called color correction or enhancement).

Color Restoration (Optional)

If you choose, our artists can airbrush or hand-tint your dried flowers to revive their original color before they get embedded in resin. We use special floral paints and dyes to carefully restore faded petals. For example, we can refresh a white rose that has yellowed, bringing it back to a brighter white, or add a touch of pink back into a blush peony that lost some hue. This is done very delicately – often with airbrush equipment that mists a translucent layer of pigment onto the petals. The goal is not to make the flowers look obviously painted, but rather to enhance their natural beauty so they appear as close as possible to how they were fresh. Our team specializes in this – as we’ve said, we want your keepsake “as vibrant as your memories.”

Color restoration is completely optional – many brides love the natural dried look, while others prefer the touched-up vibrancy. It’s all about your aesthetic preference. There is an added fee for this service (currently around $150 for a full bouquet preservation project), since it’s a labor-intensive artistic process. We’ll discuss this option during your order process. If you decide to include it, we’ll identify which blooms could benefit (for instance, white roses and hydrangeas are common candidates for whitening, whereas robust colors like deep reds might not need any help). We match the paint/dye to the exact original shade of your flower (we have your bouquet photos for reference) and apply it before the flowers are cast in resin. The result is a preserved bouquet that looks remarkably close to the fresh bouquet in color. If you prefer a more natural, vintage look, we simply skip color correction and preserve the flowers as is after drying – the choice is yours. Either way, the integrity and shape of the blooms are preserved thanks to our drying method, and the resin will seal in whatever color they have.

How to Care for Your Resin Bouquet Block

Once you have this beautiful heirloom in your hands, you’ll want to take good care of it so it stays pristine. The good news is that resin bouquet blocks are low-maintenance – the flowers are sealed away from air, so they won’t deteriorate further. But there are some important do’s and don’ts to ensure the piece remains crystal clear and damage-free:

  • Display Out of Direct Sunlight: Avoid placing your resin block in constant, strong UV light (e.g. on a sunny windowsill). While our resin is UV-resistant, prolonged sun exposure can cause slight yellowing or fading over many years. It’s best to showcase your block in a spot with indirect light. This will keep both the resin and the embedded flowers looking vibrant. Also keep it away from extreme heat (don’t leave it in a hot car or attic) – high temperatures could soften the resin or distort colors over time.
  • Keep in a Cool, Dry Place: Normal indoor room conditions are perfect. High humidity or drastic temperature swings should be avoided. Treat it like you’d treat any piece of fine art or a framed photo – no damp basements or outdoor display, for example.
  • Cleaning: To clean dust or smudges, gently wipe the block with a soft microfiber cloth. You can dampen the cloth with a bit of cool water if needed, or a tiny drop of mild dish soap for greasy spots. Do NOT use hot water or harsh chemicals/solvents on the resin. Hot water and abrasive cleaners can dull or cloud the surface. Likewise, never put the block in a dishwasher – it’s not a dish! Simply wiping it by hand is best. If a deeper clean is ever required, just use lukewarm water and a soft cloth, then dry with a microfiber towel. Avoid any scouring pads, scrapers, or rough materials that could scratch the resin’s glossy surface.
  • Handle with Care: While the block is solid and durable, it can chip or scratch if dropped on a hard surface. Handle it like you would handle a glass sculpture. It’s a good idea to lift it from the base with two hands, especially the larger heavy pieces (some large blocks can weigh several pounds). Don’t use sharp objects on it (obvious, but we have to say it – no knife to pry anything, etc., as some resin pieces can get knife marks).
  • Avoid Stacking or Pressure on Resin Surfaces: One quirk of cured epoxy resin is that two smooth resin surfaces can sometimes stick to each other if pressed together for long periods. For example, resin coasters will suction together when stacked. To be safe, do not stack your bouquet block directly against other resin items. Also avoid resting it on a fresh painted or varnished surface. If you have multiple resin pieces, display them slightly apart or put a soft liner between them for long-term storage. Similarly, don’t put your resin block face-down on a tabletop for extended time, as a very smooth glass or granite top could create a temporary tack. It’s best to display the block upright on a stand or easel (or flat on its back on a soft cloth) so it’s not putting weight on one resin face for too long. These precautions will prevent any unwanted sticking or surface impressions.
  • Routine TLC: Every now and then, give your block a gentle dusting with a dry microfiber cloth. That’s usually all that’s needed to keep it shining. If you notice the surface looking a little dull after years, you can lightly polish it with a plastic-polishing product or even a bit of car wax, but in most cases this won’t be necessary for a very long time. Our resin is extremely shiny and meant to stay that way.

By following these care tips, your preserved bouquet block will remain a stunning keepsake for many years to come. In fact, with routine care, it should “last a lifetime” and age gracefully right alongside you! We include printed care instructions with every order as a reminder. The main thing is to treat it like the valuable artwork it is – a little common-sense care goes a long way.

Pricing and How to Get Started

Because of the intense labor and materials involved, resin bouquet preservation is an investment – but one that yields an irreplaceable treasure. We are transparent about our pricing so you know what to expect. As a baseline, our studio has a $400 minimum order for bridal bouquet preservation projects. This ensures that each project receives the time and quality it deserves (and covers at least a small block or combination of items). The exact price depends on the size and style of the piece(s) you choose. Our mid-sized popular options – like a Hexagon Bouquet Block or Arch-shaped Block – typically range from $600 to $900 each. And for the ultimate statement piece, our largest 10×10″ Square Bouquet Block (capable of holding an entire big bouquet) is about $1050. We have many shapes and sizes in between, with pricing proportional to dimensions (and thus resin volume). Multiple items can also be made from one bouquet – for instance, some brides get a large block for themselves and smaller keepsakes (like jewelry, ornaments, or coasters) for family. We offer package bundles for such cases.

You can view all the options and up-to-date prices on our Bouquet Blocks collection page (and other preservation product pages on our site). When you’re ready to move forward, the first step is usually to reserve your date with a deposit. Many clients secure their spot several months in advance of the wedding. This deposit ($75) ensures we have availability around your wedding date and it is credited toward your final order. After the wedding, you’ll ship or drop off the bouquet to us, and we’ll confirm your desired items/shapes before we begin work (you don’t necessarily have to choose the exact items until after the wedding – the deposit just holds your slot). If your wedding has already passed, you can skip the deposit and order directly, but do reach out ASAP since we’ll need your flowers urgently.

Once we have the bouquet, the timeline begins as described earlier (drying → design → casting, etc., ~6-8 months). We will keep you updated throughout the process and even send photos at certain milestones (for example, we can share a sneak peek of your design layout before we cast it in resin, if you like). We take pride in maintaining good communication, because we know it’s a long wait. Rest assured, your flowers are in expert hands the whole time – every single piece is 100% handmade with an abundance of love and care. By the end, you’ll receive a one-of-a-kind artwork that preserves the emotion and beauty of your wedding day.

In summary, a resin bouquet block is more than just a product – it’s an heirloom and a piece of art. From the careful drying of each bloom to the final polish of the resin, our team puts heart and soul into making your keepsake perfect. The process may be long, but that’s because we refuse to cut corners with your cherished flowers. If you’re considering preserving your bouquet, feel free to get in touch with us with any questions. We’re happy to walk you through the options, and whether you ultimately choose a resin block or another preservation method, you’ll have the knowledge to make the best decision. But for those who dream of seeing their actual bouquet frozen in crystal-clear resin – a timeless block of memories – we’re here to make it happen! Your bouquet can truly last forever, and we’d be honored to help preserve that bit of your love story.
